Now that a quarter of the NFL football season is behind us, injuries and bye weeks will play a crucial role in fantasy leagues including IDPs. Let’s take a look at players who are worth picking up to start and/or for depth as well as guys who should be dropped from your team. FantasyCouch.com presents Drew’s weekly IDP list for week 5 of Fantasy Football …

Defensive Lineman – DL – DT – DE – NT

Players to Add

Osi Umenyiora, New York Giants – It’s almost a no-brainer to pick up Umenyiora, who is owned in only 67 percent of ESPN leagues, after the dominant display he and the Giants put on against Chicago when he notched three sacks and a pair of forced fumbles. Osi is a proven producer and will have a great year if he can avoid the injury bug which made him sit out the entire 2008 season, the only year in which he missed significant time.

Tamba Hali, Kansas City Cheifs – Matching up against the Colts this weekend doesn’t make him a great fantasy play because Peyton Manning rarely holds the ball too long, but his three sacks on San Francisco’s Alex Smith in Week 3 was impressive. Hali is very good when healthy and can rack up sacks in bunches, especially against average offensive lines. The fact that he is being used a 3-4 outside linebacker/defensive end is a good thing because it will allow him more opportunities for tackles to go with the sacks he is capable of getting.

Ndamukong Suh, Detroit Lions – Keep your eyes peeled to see how this highly-touted rookie continues to develop in the coming weeks. Suh has 15 total tackles (13 solo) and three sacks through four games and Space is the limit for this guy who has the power and quickness to be a Hall of Famer. Owned in less than 50 percent of ESPN leagues, he will add depth with the strong possibility of becoming an automatic start every week in most formats.

Players to Drop

DETROIT – SEPTEMBER 19: Kyle Vanden Bosch of the Detroit Lions watches the video replay during the game against the Philadelphia Eagles at Ford Field on September 19, 2010 in Detroit, Michigan. The Eagles defeated the Lions 35-32. (Photo by Leon Halip/Getty Images)Kyle Vanden Bosch, Detroit Lions – He hasn’t done much at all after racking up 17 total tackles (12 solo) and 1.5 sacks combined in the first two games of the season. He should have decent tackle stats by year’s end, but don’t expect him to rank very high in sacks. To be considered an IDP stud a player must provide consistent production week-to-week no matter the matchup and Vanden Bosch won’t give you that.

Aaron Kampman, Jacksonville Jaguars – The production in Week 1 was promising when he recorded 1.5 sacks and a handful of hits on Kyle Orton. The last three games have been below-average efforts in the stat sheet. As the primary pass rusher he will draw the double teams a chip blocks from running backs and he isn’t a guy that racks up a ton of tackles. Don’t hesitate to look into other options.

Linebackers – LB – OLD – MLB – ILB

Players to Add

James Anderson, Carolina Panthers – A favorite rapper of mine once said, “If you don’t know, now you know.” I’m telling you the same thing about Anderson, who through four games has 45 total tackles (34 solo), a sack and a pick while owned in less than 20 percent of ESPN leagues. He is now in his fifth season, all with Carolina, and is coming into his own as the team’s strong side linebacker and Jon Beason playing the weak side. The defensive unit will likely see extended action in upcoming games if the offense continues to sputter while adjusting to a rookie quarterback at the helm combined with the ineffective rushing attack.

Chad Greenway, Minnesota Vikings – You can expect a consistent source of tackles every game even though it would be nice to see him get to the quarterback more often. Greenway has 29 total tackles (22 solo) in three games as the Vikings come off their bye week, but he hasn’t registered a sack since 2008 when he had five. He is owned in less than 40 percent of ESPN leagues and will be a great option to fill in for bye weeks and provide depth.

Rocky McIntosh, Washington Redskins – It’s been a couple years in the making, but McIntosh has blossomed into quite a talent in his fifth year out of the University of Miami which produced other linebackers like Ray Lewis, Jonathan Vilma, D.J. Williams and the aforementioned Beason. McIntosh will follow suit and will notch over 110 total tackles this season but won’t contribute many sacks or interceptions.

Player to Drop

Rolando McClain, Oakland Raiders – The Raiders’ most recent first-round draft pick is overrated and owned in over 60 percent of ESPN leagues. Owners are expecting too much of McClain this year because he possesses the tools to be a top-10 linebacker in the future after getting some games under his belt.

Defensive Backs – DB – CB – S – FS – SS

Players to Add

Pat Chung, New England Patriots – The second-year pro is quickly making a name for himself on defense and on special teams after a monster game, two blocked kicks and a pick six against the Dolphins on Monday night. I took notice after his Week 1 performance when he tallied 16 total tackles (12 solo) and now I’m sold because of his big-play ability. Someone needs to step up and lead that young Patriots’ secondary and Chung looks to be playing himself into that role.

Donte Whitner, Buffalo Bills – Owners shouldn’t expect many turnovers but can count on tackles-a-plenty. Whitner notched double-digits in tackles the past two games and the Bills’ defense figures to spend a load of time on the field without much of an offense to give them time to rest. The Bills may be on the verge of a fire-sale trying to unload players for draft picks and Whitner may be on the market. He is a great option to start for your team as it stands now as the standout in that secondary.

T.J. Ward, Cleveland Browns – Like Chung, Ward is a former Oregon Duck with above-average tackling ability but lacks the same ball-hawk abilities. Rely on him for over 110 total tackles on an improving Cleveland defense. T.J. Ward is owned in less than 25 percent of ESPN leagues.

Player to Drop

Champ Bailey, Denver Broncos – The top cornerback on the defense will hardly see enough passes thrown his way to make any kind of fantasy impact. Interceptions don’t happen often enough to be relied upon as a main source of points from an IDP player, they need to notch tackles. Bailey is a future Hall of Famer but not someone you want on your fantasy team, period.

Brandon Meriweather, New England Patriots – He was supposed to take over the leadership role of the defensive backs in New England and that hasn’t happened at least on the stat sheet. Meriweather’s numbers have always been inconsistent and injuries have slowed him plenty in his career. It’s time to hop off the bus and find a more consistent and durable option.

Last but not least the top TE plays for Week 7.

1.  Vernon Davis VS Carolina
2.  Tony Gonzalez VS. Cincinnati
3.  Kellen Winslow JR. VS St. Louis
4.  Jason Witten VS New York Giants
5.  Aaron Hernandez VS. San Diego
6.  Brent Celek VS. Tennessee
7.  Antonio Gates VS. New England *injury risk
8.  Ben Watson VS. New Orleans
9.  Chris Cooley VS. Chicago
10. Heath Miller VS Miami

THE REST:

11. Zach Miller VS. Denver
12. Kevin Boss VS Dallas
13. Tony Moeaki VS. Jacksonville
14. John Carlson VS. Arizona
15. Todd Heap VS. New England

-Vernon Davis will have his way agains a Carolina team that has been susceptible to the pass all season.  Look for very little in the way of resistance from the Panthers here.
-Jason Witten has been solid but not earth shattering yet.  The Dallas-New York Giants game will feature lots of passing so he stand a good chance of having his best game of the year this week.
-A good deal of fantasy football owners are feeling very let down by Brent Celek as am I.  I really thought highly of him coming into the season but for some reason he hasnt been featured much in the passing game.  I think that changes this week as the Titans have given up a good deal of passes to opposing TE’s.
-Kellen Winslow would be a top 5 TE on another team but he is still doing good enough with the passing challenged Buc’s to be viable in fantasy football leagues and the Rams are a good matchup this week.
-I spoke of how Browns TE Ben Watson has been someone worth looking at due to more than solid play for the last month and if you were the unfortunate bunch that owned Dallas Clark, than Watson would make a good fill-in for this week at the very least as the Saints defense has not done a good job this year.
-Keep a close eye on Chargers TE Antonio Gates who stands a 50/50 chance of playing on Sunday due to a toe injury.  If Gates plays than you start him.  Simple as that.
-Another TE to keep an eye on is Redskins TE Chris Cooley who sustained a concussion last week.  Cooley will likely play Sunday but could be limited some.

Week 8 is here and below are the recommended adds and drops for this weekend’s games:

Week 8 Adds

Jacob Tamme (TE):  Tamme immediately goes from a nobody to a somebody of interest due to the gaping hole at TE that he will fill after Dallas Clark went on injured reserve.  Tamme has played almost exclusively on special teams in his previous two and half years with the team but he now is the starter at TE and thus becomes an intriguing player due to the fact the Colts are one of the best passing offenses in the league.  I don’t need to tell you how QB Peyton Manning turns seemingly mediocre players into starts and there is no doubt he will get Tamme involved as the TE spot is a big part of the passing attack.  Give him a shot.  Could be a diamond in the rough at a shallow spot.

LeGarrette Blount (RB):  Blount looks like he is going to get a chance to start for the Buc’s who have gotten nothing out of the running game this season.  Carnell Williams is looking like he is finished and so the rookie gets the opportunity to show what he can do.  Blount put up big numbers in college and he certainly has the ability to make a difference.

Donald Brown (RB):  Browns makes a sneaky good play this week at running back as Joseph Addai is likely to sit this one out with injury.  The Colts go up against the Texans who we all know have one of the worst defenses in the league.  Browns has good speed and cutting ability so he can easily put up a good line in this game.

Ryan Fitzpatrick (QB):  All right I am sold.  Fitzpatrick opened many eyes by throwing for 3 TD’s in a near flawless game against the usually stalwart Ravens defense last week.  Fitzpatrick has been very productive for almost a month now and to put it in perspective, his stats are very similar to those of Patriots QB Tom Brady.

Jonathan Stewart (RB):  His fellow back DeAngelo Williams is doubtful this week and so Stewart will go right into the drivers seat at running back against an up and down Rams defense.  Stewart is much better than he has shown to this point and he is due for a good game.  With so many byes this week, Stewart makes a great fill-in in the short term here.

Week 8 Drops:

Tony Romo (QB):  By now we all know that Romo broke his left clavicle and that he wont need surgery.  The latter part of the statement is the only good news in this mess as he is likely to miss around 8 weeks.  That brings him back right into most leagues fantasy football title game and I don’t think anyone would have the guts to start him in such a big game off that long layoff.  I know its tough to do but close your eyes and click DROP and be done with it.

Jeremy Shockey (TE):  After getting off to a good start to the season, Shockey has been lost once again the last few weeks.  The Saints are getting their weapons back so the chances for Shockey to get his hands on the ball will be decreasing.  There are much better TE options on the free agent wire if you need it such as Tony Moeaki, Ben Watson, and Brandon Pettigrew.

Donald Driver:  Driver is starting to get phased out of the offense as he failed to catch a pass for the first time since his rookie year last week.  Driver has also been injured most of the year and age is certainly the cause.  James Jones has eaten into his playing time and after his great game last week, it could be a permanent arrangement.

That’s all for this week.  There are a ton of teams on byes this week so this is a shorter list than usual but keep on top of all the injuries in all of the games.

http://fantasysportsboss.blogspot.com/

Its Wednesday.  You know the drill.  Here are the hot pickups and the disappointing drops for Week 4.

ADDS:

Peyton Hillis RB:  For more on Hillis, you should be sure to read today’s Fantasy Football Player Analyzer.  Any RB that can run and catch the ball is worth the attention of fantasy football owners in all leagues.

Willis McGahee RB:  With Ray Rice’s status up in the air for this week, old friend Willis McGahee enters the fantasy football world of interest once again.  McGahee hasn’t been worth owning for the last year plus but if he gets the start in place of Rice for this week’s game, he makes a sneaky good play in his place.  We all know he has 100-yard/game ability and a nose for the end zone so make the add in case.
Kenneth Darby RB:  Steven Jackson has a groin injury and didn’t practice today.  Although no tear was found, the chances of Jackson going on Sunday are 50/50.  Kenneth Darby scored a TD in relief last Sunday and he has the ability to be a nice one week starter.

Aaron Hernandez TE:  Hernandez is coming off back-to-back 6 catch games and plays in one of the best passing offenses in the game.  QB Tom Brady is getting into the habit of looking for him when he drops back to pass and he no doubt has earned the trust of him and the coaches due to his great outings the last two weeks.

Kyle Orton QB:  Orton has been putting up nice numbers so far this season and no one is noticing.  Yes he no longer has Brandon Marshall to throw to but Orton has made big use of Eddie Royal and the rest of the receiving corps.  With bye weeks coming up, Orton make a very solid fill-in if needed.

DROPS:

Carson Palmer QB:  Despite having arguably the best collection of receivers in the game, Palmer has not taken advantage as he continues to struggle throwing the ball downfield and with his accuracy.  Its possible he has lost zip on his fastball due to last year’s elbow injury but either way he is not doing enough to stay in a fantasy football starting lineup.

Michael Bush RB:  Bush was an interesting player going into the season due to a string of solid part-time outings when he was healthy the last few years and due to the fact Darren McFadden wasn’t able to secure the job to himself.  Well that has changed in a big way as McFadden has been tremendous this season and has the starting job wrapped up for now.  Bush just wont get on the field enough to make a difference.

Justin Forsett RB:  Forsett is another back like Bush that had fantasy intrigue coming into the season but he has not had one impact game yet.  Coach Pete Carroll has not used him as much as anticipated and the poor Seattle line does not engender confidence he will make a big impact.

Clinton Portis RB:  Portis has been among the worst starting running back’s in the league so far and now he is hurt to boot.  No doubt Mike Shannahan is getting tired of the poor performances and so Ryan Torain is likely to have a shot at the starter’s job.  Don’t live on past glory as Portis is just a name right now.

Carnell Williams:  Williams has looked like he has lost a step and is now being pushed by former 1,000 yard back Earnest Graham.  With Raheem Morris looking to build an long-term offense for Josh Freeman, look for Williams’ role to decrease as the season head into the winter.

That’s all for now.  Be sure to stay on top of your teams as bye weeks approach.

http://www.bukisa.com/articles/364179_fantasy-football-week-4-adds-and-drops

http://thefantasysportsboss.com/

Brent Celek:  4 catches for 46 yards.  Celek continues his nondescript disappointing season. There was some hope when Kevin Kolb got under center as he and Celek had a great rapport last season in the time they played together.  I have to admit I thought Celek would have an even better year than his excellent 2009 campaign.  Some fantasy football owners have even dropped him in some leagues and I honestly cant blame them at this point.

Tony Gonzalez:  3 catches for 19 yards with 2 TD’s.  Gonzalez made the most of his few catches in the game and its clear QB Matt Ryan looks to him in the red zone.  Gonzalez is still a top TE option week in and week out.

Benjamin Watson:  6 catches for 88 yards with 1 TD.  I have been badmouthing Watson all season but he is doing his best to shut me up.  Watson has a string of three straight solid games under his belt and is almost becoming fantasy football worthy.  I am still not a fan of the QB situation by if rookie QB Colt McCoy is going to rely on anyone, than it would be the TE so Watson could continue his good efforts.  Your call.

Heath Miller:  2 catches for 50 yards with 1 TD.  Miller sees hit value shoot up big time now that Big Ben is back.  The raw catches are never there for Miller so he is strictly a TD heavy option but one that could be consistent in that department the rest of the year.

Greg Olson:  zero catches.  Nothing doing for Olson and he is really not worth the hassle right now as the Bears offense is totally off track.  Olson has great natural ability but he is not worth owning in most fantasy football leagues now.

John Carlson:  2 catches for 21 yards.  I took a flier on Carlson in my PPR money league draft but cut bait quickly as he has not gotten enough looks from QB Matt Hasselbeck.  Like Greg Olson, Carlson has very good ability but he is not involved in his offense enough to be fantasy football relevant.

Anthony Fasano:  1 catch for 22 yards.  It looked like Fasano would be a usable fantasy football TE a few years back but he is one of the lower ranked guys in the game now.  Leave him on the wire all year.

Kevin Boss:  2 catches for 27 yards.  A John Carlson clone in that he has terrific hands but not a big enough role in the offense to be considered anything more than a bye week fill in.  Even in that situation he is a low end stock.

Brandon Pettigrew:  7 catches for 61 yards.  I think Pettigrew is great.  I love the guy and I actually am offering up old friend Jason Witten around due to my belief that Pettigrew wont be much of a dropoff.  I thought the injury to Shaun Hill would hurt his value but Drew Stanton looked his way often.  If you are in my situation with Witten, I would offer him up and see what you can get.

Jeremy Shockey:  2 catches for 21 yards.  Shockey vanished this week after being very good the last few weeks but that’s the nature of the New Orleans passing offense.  Shockey is still a low end TE 1 option for fantasy football owners the rest of the season.

Kellen Winslow:  7 catches for 43 yards.  Winslow has always been a better PPR TE than a TD heavy one as he doesn’t score much.  He is what he is and he no longer is the exciting young option he was when he first got to the league.

Antonio Gates:  2 catches for 12 yards.  This could be bad.  Gates left in the first half with a foot problem and was seen after the game with a boot on it.  That’s never a good sign and right now there is no word on its severity.  Get ready to pounce on Aaron Hernandez or Brandon Pettigrew.

Tony Moeaki:  2 catches for 21 yards.  Moeaki is having a nice year but I am not on this bandwagon.  He has to get into the end zone more to overcome the inconsistent catches.

Owen Daniels:  5 catches for 79 yards.  We are starting to see the Owen Daniels from early 2009 as its taken him awhile to get back into playing shape off last year’s season ending injury.  If Daniels is sitting on your free agent wire and you are or were a Jermichael Finley owner, than Daniels is perfect for you.

Todd Heap:  3 catches for 49 yards with 1 TD.  Heap is still a decent player but no longer the must start option he was years ago.

Aaron Hernandez:  4 catches for 61 yards.  Like Brandon Pettigrew, Hernandez is a TE that I love for this year as a breakout.  Hernandez is going to get a nice boost in receptions now that Randy Moss has been traded so pick the man up if he is sitting out there.

Zach Miller:  2 catches for 48 yards.  Miller would be a great PPR TE option if he were anywhere but Oakland so for now he is nothing but a bye week fill in.

Vernon Davis:  4 catches for 35 yards with 1 TD.  Davis is scoring TD’s like usual but the raw receptions are down some.  Still Alex Smith loves him and he will continue to get his catches.  Now that Gates could be out, you could say Davis is right behind Dallas Clark in the hierarchy at TE.

Dustin Keller:  3 catches for 75 yards.  The word is out on Keller and he has been seeing some more defensive attention which has cut into his catchers.  Still he is having a breakout season and is worth continuing to start.

Jason Witten:  3 catches for 52 yards.  Witten has been somewhat of a disappointment as he always makes up for a lack of TD’s with a boatload of catches.  Its clear QB Tony Romo is loving Miles Austin and Roy Williams right now so Witten is the forgotten man here.  I have started looking into trading Witten as I have Brandon Pettigrew and can also get Aaron Hernandez off waivers.  I would see what you can get for the guy if someone needs a TE with all of the recent injuries we have seen.

Vishante Shiancoe:  zero catches.  Shiancoe has dropped fast after a great start and he now has to deal with Randy Moss and a soon to return Sidney Rice for catches in the offense.

Dallas Clark:  6 catches for 52 yards.  Another nice effort from the best TE in the game.

Chris Cooley:  5 catches for 37 yards.  Cooley sustained a concussion in the second half and didn’t return which leaves his status in doubt for next week.  Keep checking on his progress this week.

Oregon, Texas and Iowa won huge, critical victories to remain in contention for the National Championship Game during college football’s 9th week of play.

None of the three victories was more impressive or substantial than 10th-ranked Oregon’s convincing, ultimately dominating 47-20 upset win at home over 4th-ranked Southern California. Oregon was a 3-point underdog in the game.

The USC Trojans had won at least 11 games a season and had 7 consecutive BSC bowl-game appearances for 7 straight years; now the streak has been broken as there is no way Southern Cal can win 11 games this season. With another loss, USC’s 8th straight BCS bowl-game streak would also be in jeopardy.

The win pushed the Ducks to 7-1 and dropped the Trojans to 6-2 and, perhaps more important, left Oregon on top of the Pac 10 Conference race with an unbeaten 5-0 mark and pushed USC into a 3-way tie for 4th place at 3-2. The Trojan loss was its worst since 1997 when they were beaten by the Washington Huskies 27-0.

The Trojans came into the game ranked 16th nationally in both scoring defense and total defense, and flew home in defensive disarray.

How convincing was Oregon’s upset? This convincing: Oregon double-threat Jeremiah Masoli threw for 222 yards and a touchdown, and ran for 164 more yards and another score. Redshirt freshman LaMichael James ran for 183 yards and a touchdown as the Ducks racked up 391 yards rushing on the 5th best rushing defense in the nation. USC’s defense gave up a total of 613 yards to Oregon. The Trojan loss was the worst ever for head coach Pete Carroll during his 9 years at USC.

None of the three key victories was more important to a front-runner than the 3rd-ranked Texas Longhorns’ 41-14 smash-mouth win on-the-road over 13th-ranked Oklahoma State. Texas led 41-7 after three quarters when Longhorn quarterback Colt McCoy left the game for good.

The Cowboys (now 6-2) allowed McCoy to go 16-for-21 for 171 yards and a touchdown, and Longhorn defenders Curtis Brown and Earl Thomas each returned an interception for a TD. The win definitely keeps the Longhorns (8-0) in the running for the national title game, especially if either Florida or Alabama now loses down the stretch.

None of the three victories was more exciting than Iowa’s 4th quarter, come-from-behind 42-24 win over a 4-5 Indiana team. The Hoosiers led 24-14 after three quarters and Iowa looked like burned toast, but the Hawkeyes exploded for 4 last quarter touchdowns to win the 4th quarter 28-0, and the game.

Iowa’s Ricky Stanzi threw 5 interceptions before the explosion, which started with an interception and 86-yard TD return by Tyler Sash. The defensive score ignited the Hawkeyes as Stanzi then made up for his errant ways by connecting with Marvin McNutt on a 92-yard TD pass, and Darrell Johnson-Koulianos on a 66-yard TD pass. Brandon Wegher added 6 and 27-yard scoring runs to end the rapid comeback.

Iowa has made a career out of winning close games this season—7 of the 9 Hawkeye wins have been by 11 or fewer points. Last year Iowa lost 4 games by combined total of 12 points. The Hawkeyes perfect 9-0 record is the best start in school history.

There were 4 upsets of ranked teams this week by unranked teams that included North Carolina, South Florida, Tennessee and Auburn.

Unranked North Carolina (5-3) went calling on 14th-ranked Virginia Tech (now also 5-3) and upset the Hokies 20-17. Unranked South Florida (now 6-2) traveled to 20th-ranked West Virginia (now also 6-2) and upset the Mountaineers 30-19. Unranked Tennessee (4-4) upset 21st-ranked South Carolina 31-13 at home, dropping the Gamecocks to 6-3 on the year and showing which team has the better defense.

Unranked Auburn (now 6-3) upset 24th-ranked Mississippi 33-20 at home, dropping Ole Miss to 5-3. Can we now just shut up about how great the Rebel team is going to be this year? Mississippi was ranked 10th in the pre-season Coaches Top 25 Poll.

Four other ranked teams came home with away victories—Cincinnati, Georgia Tech, Penn State and Miami (FL).

Unbeaten and 5th-ranked Cincinnati (8-0) beat 100th-ranked Syracuse 28-7, scoring a touchdown in each quarter to inflict a slow, painful death on the Orange.

No. 11-ranked Georgia Tech scored 28 second-half points to gun down 129th-ranked Vanderbilt 56-31. The Yellow Jackets’ win was not impressive as they gave up 31 points to a lousy team, but at least their offense scored touchdowns in every quarter, and at least two TDs in 3 of the 4 quarters. Georgia Tech is now 8-1 on the season.

Penn State (8-1) beat the 98th-ranked Northwestern Wildcats 34-13. Northwestern (now 5-4) was 9-4 a year ago and lost a tough overtime game 30-23 to Missouri in the Alamo Bowl. Joe Pa and his 12th-ranked Nittany Lions still must beat Ohio State and Michigan State to have much to crow about since he selected and beat 4 cupcakes on his way to 8 wins so far. Penn State would play another team’s scout unit for a victory if they could get away with it.

The 18th-ranked Miami Hurricanes (6-2) needed two 4th-quarter touchdowns to nip 65th-ranked Wake Forest 28-27. The Demon Deacons led 27-14 after three quarters, but folded when it counted in the 4th quarter, which must make Wake Forest a pretty good three-quarter team.

Nine other ranked teams won at home—Florida, Boise State, Texas Christian, LSU, Houston, Ohio State, Utah, Oklahoma and Notre Dame.

No. 1 Florida went 8-0 by beating 35th-ranked Georgia, 41-17, as the Gators continue to roll on unbeaten toward another National Championship Game and a defense of their 2008 National Title last year.

No. 6 Boise State went 8-0 by ripping apart a terrible 1-6, 97th-ranked San Jose State team 45-7 in a cakewalk.

No. 8 Texas Christian shut out a 3-6, 113th-ranked UNLV team 41 to nothing, which pretty well describes the Rebel team this year. UNLV has not been to a bowl game since 2000; it’s a good thing the Rebels chalked up a bowl appearance early in the century because they may not make it back to another one until 3000 at the rate they are going.

No. 9 LSU (7-1) shut out the 2-6, 145th-ranked Tulane Green Wave 42-0.

No. 15 Houston (7-1) had its hands full with the 73rd-ranked Southern Mississippi Golden Eagles, barely winning in a genuine, old-fashioned gunfight, 50-43. Southern Miss was ranked 25th nationally in scoring defense coming into the game, so the Golden Eagles had a defense and could not stop Houston’s 3rd-ranked scoring offense.

The Houston Cougars, who have no total defense (they were ranked 112th among 120 major college teams), did what they always do, they gave up a horrendous number of points. If Houston had no offense, the Cougars would probably lose every game 26-0.

No. 17 Ohio State (7-2) shut out a 3-6, 148th-ranked New Mexico State team 45-0. The Buckeyes led 45-zip after three quarters and decided to shower early in the 4th quarter.

No. 19 Utah came up with another unimpressive 22-10 victory, this time over the 107th-ranked Wyoming Cowboys. Despite their impressive 7-1 record, the Utes must beat Texas Christian and Brigham Young to be in any discussion about who is good at the national level.

No. 22 Oklahoma (5-3) won 42-30 in a lackluster performance over a 5-3 Kansas State team. Now you know why the Sooners are 5-3 and really going nowhere.

The No. 25 Notre Dame Fighting Irish (6-2) might have surprised themselves in finally becoming bowl eligible by crushing a woefully weak 1-7, 119th-ranked Washington State team, 40-14. Last year the Washington Huskies were a winless 0-12; this year the Washington State Cougars are just as bad.

Eight unranked teams became bowl eligible this week with their 6th win—Wisconsin, Rutgers, Boston College, Texas Tech, California, Temple, Troy and Ohio.

Wisconsin (6-2) shut out Purdue 37-0 in a Big Ten face-off. Two weeks ago Purdue had a huge 26-18 upset of visiting Ohio State, and this week the Boilermakers became a doormat for the Badgers; nothing could better describe the ups and downs of a college football team.

Rutgers (6-2) turned back Connecticut 28-24 after letting the Huskies score two 4th-quarter touchdowns to narrow the margin. You remember Rutgers, it’s that New Jersey school on the East Coast, where sportswriters and sportscasters think all great football is played; they suffer from other delusions too.

Boston College (6-2) beat visiting Central Michigan 31-10. The Central Michigan Chippewas (now 7-2) are lucky that this loss was not to a Mid American Conference opponent.

Texas Tech (6-3) ripped Kansas 42-21, California (6-2) held off Arizona State 23-21, Troy (6-2) clobbered Louisiana Monroe 42-21, Ohio (6-3) just nudged by a pathetic, 163rd-ranked Ball State team 20-17, and Temple (6-2) used a 4th-quarter field goal to edge a 6-3 Navy team, 27-24. The Temple Owls have now won their 6th game in-a-row, their longest win streak since 1974.

Week 4 – Wavier Wire Pickups. If you are looking for a free agent or waiver wire pickup for your fantasy football team in Week 4, here are a couple of the best options likely available in your league. Waiver Wire Pickups at each starting position are posted, including QB – RB – WR – TE – K – D. Each players ownership percentage in a standard 10 team yahoo public league is posted after their name. If you have any comments or questions, you can post them in the comment box below this article. Thanks for Reading! – Hawk Michaels at Hawk Fantasy Sports Blog.

QUARTERBACK

Mark Sanchez – NYJ = @Buf / 42%
After back to back excellent weeks from Sanchez and the Jets passing attack, a matchup against the Bills could very easily keep Sanchez on a roll. If you are a Tony Romo owner and are in need of a spot starting QB this week, Sanchez should be your number one waiver wire pickup choice. 200-250 passing yards and 1-2 touchdowns is possible.

Bruce Gradkowski – Oak = Hou / 5%
DEEP SLEEPER ALERT —-
As has been the case throughout his career, Gradkowski took the offensive reigns and did his job very well last week. Better yet, a matchup at home against the worst passing defense in the NFL so far this season in the Texans, could mean Gradkowski turns into fantasy football gold this week. It is not impossible to imagine Gradkowski tallying 250 passing yards and 1-2 touchdowns in this game.

David Garrard – Jac = Ind / 28%
Yes Garrard has been nearly awful this season, but a matchup against the Colts secondary could very easily reverse his misfortunes this week. And if Kyle Orton can tally 476 passing yards against the Colts last week, then you have to believe there is some potential for a decent game from Garrard this week. 200 passing yards and 1 touchdown.

Matt Hasselbeck – Sea = @StL / 38%
The Rams defense has actually been somewhat good so far this season, so this is by no means an easy runaway matchup for Hasselbeck this week. However we are talking about the Rams defense, so anything is possible.

Chad Henne – Mia = NE / 43%
After watching Ryan Fitzpatrick pick apart the New England secondary, Henne actually has some hope for a decent game this week.

Sam Bradford – StL = Sea / 26%
Just three games into the season, and Bradford has clearly played better than anyone could have expected from a rookie QB coming off of a shoulder injury college. A matchup at home clearly helps his cause this week, but lets hope the injury to running back Steven Jackson is not significant. Otherwise defenses have no reason to be honest against the Rams running game anymore.

RUNNING BACK

Hey Remember Seeing This Last Week In This RB Pickup Section????

BenJarvis Green-Ellis – NE = Buf / 1%
DEEP SLEEPER ALERT —-
Ok forget about Fred Taylor, or Kevin Faulk, or even Sammy Morris for that matter. Green-Ellis is the Patriots running back of the future….and the soon to be present. So if your team has virtually no RB depth, go out and pick up Green-Ellis this week. The reward could be huge!

BenJarvis Green-Ellis – NE = @Mia / 10%
If you did not heed my advice last week and go grab Green-Ellis, well nice job….lol. And if you did listen and go grab him as a free agent like I said you should, go ahead and pat yourself on the back right now. Anyway, the performance by Green-Ellis last week is exactly what I expected of him, and I would not be surprised if he takes over the starting RB job full time for the Patriots from here on out. 50-100 rushing yards is possible, and a touchdown is not out of the question either.

Justin Forsett – Sea = @StL / 61%
Solid matchup, and Forsett is finally receiving a good amount of rushing attempts in the Seahawks offense. Numbers in the range of 50-75 rushing yards is likely, with a touchdown possible as well.

Peyton Hillis – Cle = Cin / 46%
Hillis exploded against the Ravens defense last week to the tune of 144 rushing yards and 1 touchdown, so if Jerome Harrison is once again out for this game and Hillis gets the starting nod, there is plenty of potential for a decent stat day from Hillis again this week.

Laurence Maroney – Den = @Ten / 36%
With Knowshon Moreno out, it looks like the starting RB job will be Maroney’s to lose. In terms of matchups this week, Maroney has nothing special to deal with, but stats in the range of 50-80 rushing yards is definitely possible if Moreno is once again out. Not to mention the goal line work is Maroney’s as well.

Kenneth Darby – StL = Sea / 6%
If Steven Jackson is out for any amount of time, Darby is the next RB in line for the Rams.

Willis McGahee – Bal = @Pit / 31%
If Ray Rice is out for any amount of time, McGahee is the next RB in line for the Ravens.

WIDE RECEIVER

Louis Murphy – Oak = Hou / 29%
The insertion of Bruce Gradkowski at QB has clearly been a lifesaver for Murphy so far this season. Now add in a matchup at home against the worst passing defense in the NFL this week against the Houston Texans, and Murphy is pushing a top 10 WR ranking in all fantasy football leagues for this week. At 29% owned in 10 team leagues, Murphy is a downright steal on the waiver wire this week. Go grab Murphy with confidence, and feel free to start him as your WR2 this week. Now just hope the Raiders stick with Gradkowski at QB, and all should be well in fantasy football Raider Nation.

Brandon Lloyd – Den = @Ten / 31%
A career game last week has Lloyd’s fantasy football stock on the rise this week, but who knows whether he can sustain it out not. Especially considering all the receiving options in Denver right now: Eddie Royal, Demaryius Thomas and Jabar Gaffney. However if your fantasy football team needs WR help, grabbing Lloyd is definitely not your worst option.

Braylon Edwards – NYJ = @Buf / 68%
Honestly, you just cannot predict what Edwards will do. But with a matchup against the Bills, Edwards is a decent flyer pickup for this week. Just do not ‘expect’ anything certain from Edwards, as he has been known to become invisible in games where you would anticipate him doing well.

Lance Moore – NO = Car / 11%
Moore clearly found his stride with Drew Brees last week. With so many options in New Orleans it is hard to expect Moore to be a weekly starter for fantasy football teams, but with a home matchup against the Panthers in store for this week, Moore is definitely worth a look-see and spot start as a flex player.

Darrius Heyward-Bey – Oak = Hou / 7%
DEEP SLEEPER ALERT —-
If the Texans secondary somehow finds a way to cover Louis Murphy in this game, then the speedy Heyward-Bey should be the guy who benefits the most for the Raiders. So if you need to take a deep flyer on someone at WR, Heyward-Bey is the perfect target. A career game could be in store if all goes well.

Jerricho Cotchery – NYJ = @Buf / 40%
Mike Thomas – Jac = Ind / 11%
Blair White – Ind = @Jac / 0%
Jabar Gaffney – Den = @Ten / 27%

TIGHT END

Dustin Keller – NYJ = @Buf / 67%
Seemingly on a mission with Mark Sanchez over the past two weeks, Keller should continue to connect with Sanchez for at least half a dozen receptions in this game. It would not be surprising to see Keller end with a stat line in the range of 75-125 receiving yards and 1-2 touchdowns in this game. Owned in just 67% of leagues is downright criminal.

Zach Miller – Oak = Hou / 72%
Assuming Bruce Gradkowski sticks as the Raiders QB for this game, Miller should enjoy a solid stat day against what has been an atrocious Houston pass defense that has allowed an astonishing 368 passing yards per game so far this season. 50-100 receiving yards and 1 touchdown can easily be expected from Miller this week.

John Carlson – Sea = @StL / 61%
After a solid game last week for Carlson, a matchup against the Rams is not the worst possible scenario. 50-80 receiving yards is likely, with a touchdown not out of the question either.

Jermaine Gresham – Cin = @Cle / 33%
A matchup against the Browns this week could easily be the coming out party for Gresham. If you need a spot starting TE this week because of a bye week to your current starter, then Gresham is a guy you want to give a look to.

Aaron Hernandez – NE = @Mia / 32%
With Tom Brady as his QB, Hernandez is all about potential right now. With three solid games under his belt to open the season, Hernandez’s fantasy football ownership percentage has slowly gone up, and it seems like just a matter of time before it skyrockets. If you have a question mark at all about your TE position, go grab Hernandez right now.

KICKER

Nick Folk – NYJ = @Buf / 11%
Mike Nugent – Cin = @Cle / 17%
Neil Rackers – Hou = @Oak / 64%
Adam Vinatieri – Ind = @Jac / 25%
Matt Bryant – Atl = SF / 9%

DEFENSE

Cincinnati Bengals = @Cle / 50%
Chicago Bears = @NYG / 33%
Atlanta Falcons = SF / 9%
San Diego Chargers = Ari / 54%
Seattle Seahawks = @StL / 9%

Week 7 – Wavier Wire Pickups. If you are looking for a free agent or waiver wire pickup for your fantasy football team in Week 7, here are a couple of the best options likely available in your league.

QUARTERBACK

Kevin Kolb – Phi = @Ten / 51%
Hitting on all cylinders last week, Kolb is absolutely worthy of a starting spot in all fantasy football leagues this week. And on a side note, Kolb played just as well even after DeSean Jackson left the game with an injury. In other words, even if Jackson does not play in this game, Kolb is still an excellent starting QB option for fantasy football teams, as he still has three excellent playmakers in Jeremy Maclin, Brent Celek and LeSean McCoy to pass the ball to. 250 passing yards and 2 touchdowns.

Matt Cassel – KC = Jac / 25%
Taking full advantage of an awful Houston Texans pass defense last week, Cassel could be in for another excellent game this week against a nearly just as awful Jaguars secondary this week. 200-250 passing yards and 1-2 touchdowns is definitely possible for Cassel in this game.

Josh Freeman – TB = StL / 22%
A tough game last week for Freeman and the Buccaneers offense, but there is still plenty of potential for Freeman to be a quality starting QB in all fantasy football league formats this week. At under 25% owned, Freeman is a solid QB who should easily be available in your league if you need a spot starter this week.

Matt Hasselbeck – Sea = Ari / 26%
With a finally healthy offensive line blocking for him, Hasselbeck had plenty of time to pick apart the Chicago Bears defense last week. Now with a matchup against an Arizona Cardinals defense that is worse than the Bears, and the writing is on the wall for Hasselbeck once again putting up useful stats for fantasy football teams if needed this week.

Sam Bradford – StL = @TB / 41%
David Garrard – Jac = @KC / 33%
Colt McCoy – Cle = @NO / 3%

RUNNING BACK

Chris Ivory – NO = Cle / 11%
Topping the 100 rushing yard mark in last weeks game, Ivory faces a weak Cleveland Browns defense that will be keying on stopping Drew Brees and the Saints passing attack. Seems like an ideal matchup for Ivory, so fantasy football teams will want to take full advantage this week and start Ivory. 100 rushing yards and 1 touchdown is easily within reach for Ivory in this game. At around a ridiculously low 11% owned in 10 team leagues, Ivory is one starting running back that is sure to be available in your league.

BenJarvis Green-Ellis – NE = @SD / 55%
Taking over the goal line duties and being successful at scoring touchdowns when those opportunities arise, Green-Ellis should be considered a solid starting flex option in all fantasy football leagues right now. On the downside, the emergence of Danny Woodhead will take away some yards, but for fantasy purposes, the touchdowns should continue to tally up. 50 rushing yards and 1 touchdown is definitely possible.

Marshawn Lynch – Sea = Ari / 55%
Could be a breakout game for Lynch this week against a so-so Arizona Cardinals defense. At around just 50% owned, Lynch is a solid pickup and start this week, while also offering loads of long term potential as the season progresses for fantasy football teams.

Fred Jackson – Buf = @Bal / 51%
Much like Marshawn Lynch, this could be Jackson’s breakout game as the Bills starter. That is assuming CJ Spiller does not receive the majority of the carries.

Justin Forsett – Sea = Ari / 52%
Danny Woodhead – NE = @SD / 17%
LaGarrett Blount – TB = StL / 5%

WIDE RECEIVER

Deion Branch – NE = @SD / 31%
So much for needing a week or two to reconnect with Tom Brady. Branch looks like an excellent mid-season WR pickup for fantasy football teams right now. After Wes Welker, it looks like Branch will easily become Brady’s next best passing option. 50-75 receiving yards is likely in this game for Branch. However, more importantly for fantasy football teams, the long term season potential is what fantasy football teams will want to gamble on if they are considering picking up Branch this week.

Mike Williams – TB = StL / 61%
Solid matchup and being the #1 receiving option in the offense helps too. At around 61% owned, Williams is available in more leagues than what he should be.

Derrick Mason – Bal = Buf / 62%
Outstanding matchup could have Mason nearing the 100 receiving yard mark again this week, and a touchdown is easily within reach as well.

Mike Williams – Sea = Ari / 8%
Broke out with a huge game last week against a solid Chicago Bears defense, and if Matt Hasselbeck can continue to get time in the pocket to pass again this week, then Williams could be looking at putting up excellent PPR numbers. 5-10 receptions and 50-100 receiving yards is very possible, and a touchdown is not out of the equation either.

Lance Moore – NO = Cle / 56%
Jabar Gaffney – Den = Oak / 50%
Robert Meachem – NO = Cle / 42%
Patrick Crayton – SD = NE / 4%
Steve Johnson – Buf = @Bal / 31%
Danario Alexander – StL = @TB / 1%

TIGHT END

Tony Moeaki – KC = Jac / 32%
Having Dwayne Bowe breakout with a huge game last week was encouraging for the Chiefs passing game, and if you look below the surface, having a receiver like Bowe playing well and demanding defenses attention, the quarterback friendly Moeaki should actually see even more open space in the secondary. Combine in a matchup against a terrible Jaguars pass defense, and Moeaki should be a top 5 scoring fantasy football TE this week. 50-100 receiving yards is likely, and a touchdown is absolutely within reach as well.

John Carlson – Sea = Ari / 48%
Solid matchup for the Seahawks passing attack, and Carlson could have a breakout game. Target him if you are looking for a waiver wire pickup and starting replacement for either Dallas Clark or Dustin Keller this week.

Kellen Winslow – TB = StL / 69%
Pretty good matchup for the Buccanneers offense, but the Rams defense has been playing better than anyone could have excepted.

Aaron Hernandez – NE = @SD / 59%
Hernandez’s role should continue to grow in the Patriots offense.

Todd Heap – Bal = Buf / 38%
Excellent matchup makes Heap a solid spot starter this week.

Andrew Quarless – GB = Min / 3%
With Jermichael Finley out for the year, the starting TE job is Quarless’ to lose. And anytime you have a quarterback like Aaron Rodgers throwing you the ball, you have to believe that your chances of getting some passes your way is pretty good.

KICKER

Matt Prater – Den = Oak / 49%

Garrett Hartley – NO = Cle / 40%

Josh Brown – StL = @TB / 5%

DEFENSE

Week 14 – Wavier Wire Pickups. If you are looking for a free agent or waiver wire pickup, here are a couple of the best options likely available in your league. Pickups at every position are posted, including QB – RB – WR – TE – K – D. Each players ownership percentage in 10 team yahoo public leagues is listed after their name.

QB

Vince Young – Ten = StL / 37%

Assuming the injury he sustained last week doesn’t linger into this game, Young is a clear top 15 QB option this week for fantasy teams. A matchup at home against the Rams could have Young in the ballpark of 225 passing yards, 30 rushing yards, and 2 touchdowns.

Kyle Orton – Den = @Ind / 64%

Ryan Fitzpatrick – Buf = @KC / 5%

Chad Henne – Mia = @Jac / 10%

LAST WEEK’S PICKS:

Kyle Orton – Den = @KC / 62%

Proving to be a gamer by playing through his ankle injury, Orton offers fantasy teams in need of a QB some relief this week. A matchup against Kansas City should have Orton eyeing 200-225 passing yards and 1-2 touchdowns. If you need a spot starter at QB this week, Orton is likely your best option on the waiver wire.

Alex Smith – SF = @Sea / 24%

Vince Young – Ten = @Ind / 25%

RB

Jamaal Charles – KC = Buf / 66%

Based on his matchup against the worst run defense in the entire NFL this season, the Buffalo Bills defense allows a mind boggling 172 rushing yards per game this season, Charles is one RB you definitely want in your starting lineup this week. At just 66% owned, Charles is an absolute steal and must claim waiver wire pickup in ALL leagues this week. 100-150 total yards, 1-2 touchdowns.

Rock Cartwright – Was = @Oak / 32%

Marshawn Lynch – Buf = @KC / 66%

Willis McGahee – Bal = Det / 56%

Correll Buckhalter – Den = @Ind / 33%

Shonn Greene – NYJ = @TB / 18%

LAST WEEK’S PICKS:

LeSean McCoy – Phi = @Atl 74%

Firmly entrenched as the starting RB in Philly, McCoy with ownership percentage at just 74% is downright absurd. So stop asking if McCoy is starter worthy in your lineup, or if you should pick him up. It is quite obvious by now that McCoy is a must start RB2 in nearly all league formats. If he is still hanging out on your leagues waiver wire, put your claim in now and get him. 75-100 rushing yards and 1 touchdown is likely this week against a struggling Atlanta team.

Jamaal Charles – KC = Den 58%

Justin Forsett – Sea = SF 56%

Carnell Williams – TB = @Car / 54%

Correll Buckhalter – Den = @KC / 32%

Rock Cartwright – Was = NO / 32%

Chris Jennings – Cle = SD / 1%

Shonn Greene – NYJ = @Buf / 19%

WR

Kenny Britt – Ten = StL / 25%

With Vince Young lighting up the air attack and Chris Johnson forcing defenses to try and shut him down, Britt is starting to come into his own right now. A matchup against the lowly Rams secondary that could be without their best player in Oshiomogho Atogwe, and Britt could be looking at 100 receiving yards and 1 touchdown in this game.

Lee Evans – Buf = @KC / 70%

Robert Meachem – NO = @Atl / 55%

Hakeem Nicks – NYG = Phi / 65%

Mike Wallace – Pit = @Cle / 42%

Davone Bess – Mia = @Jac / 7%

Mark Clayton – Bal = Det / 33%

Brian Hartline – Mia = @Jac / 1%

LAST WEEK’S PICKS:

Kevin Walter – Hou = @Jac / 55%

If you have been listening my advice in the previous weeks, then you know that I have been rather high on Walter. And of course I have good reason for my thinking, because Walter now enters into a solid stretch of pass friendly games for Schaub and the Texans offense. I fully expect an excellent finish to the season from Walter, so if you are looking for a solid WR pickup to gamble on, Walter is your guy. 50-100 receiving yards and 1 touchdown is possible this week against an awful Jaguars secondary.

Malcom Floyd – SD = @Cle / 12%

Jeremy Maclin – Phi = @Atl / 63%

Johnny Knox – Chi = StL / 52%

Kenny Britt – Ten = @Ind / 13%

Jacoby Jones – Hou = @Jac / 22%

TE

Kevin Boss – NYG = Phi 46%

Boss has been an extremely consistent fantasy TE over the past several weeks, and yet he is owned in under 50% of 10 team leagues. A matchup against an Eagles defense that struggles at covering tight ends, could allow Boss to tally 50-80 receiving yards and 1 touchdown in this game.

Jermichael Finley – GB = @Chi / 18%

Fred Davis – Was = @Oak / 16%

Todd Heap – Bal = Det / 44%

LAST WEEK’S PICKS:

Tony Scheffler – Den = @KC / 28%

The Kansas City defense struggled mightily trying to cover Antonio Gates last week, and while Scheffler isn’t nearly as talented as Gates, he still can definitely catch the ball. At under 30% owned, Scheffler is an excellent cheap pickup who could easily put up some big time stats this week. 40-80 receiving yards and 1 touchdown is possible.

Kevin Boss – NYG = Dal / 46%

Dustin Keller – NYJ = @Buf / 46%

Jermichael Finley – GB = Bal / 21%

Marcedes Lewis – Jac = Hou / 14%

TE Rankings – Start and Sit TE Rankings – Week 11. TE Rankings are based on the best matchups and highest potential fantasy football point outcomes among all TE for fantasy football teams in Week 11. Use these TE rankings to help you decide which TE to start in Week 11. If you have any comments or questions, you can post in the comment box below the rankings.

1. Dallas Clark – Ind = @Bal

Reliable, healthy, great QB, pass heavy offense, scoring potential. What else could you ask for from your fantasy TE? 50-100 receiving yards and a touchdown always possible.

2. Antonio Gates – SD = @Den

With Denver allowing tight end Fred Davis to record the most receptions and receiving yards against them last week, and Gates tallying 5 receptions for 70 receiving yards in their matchup earlier this season, it only seems reasonable to expect another 5 catch day with 50-100 receiving yards again from Gates this week. Not to mention a touchdown is possible as well.

3. Tony Gonzalez – Atl = @NYG

Matt Ryan isn’t playing well, Michael Turner is injured and unlikely to play in this game, and the defense will be keying on Roddy White. I fully expect Matt Ryan to look for the crafty veteran Gonzalez at least 10 times in this game. 50-100 receiving yards is likely, with a touchdown not out of the question.

4. Kellen Winslow – TB = NO

Right now it looks like Josh Freeman at QB will be Winslow’s savior for fantasy football owners over the remainder of the season. After last weeks 7 receptions and 102 receiving yards, it seems reasonable to expect numbers from Winslow in the range of 75-100 receiving yards. Just don’t expect a touchdown, as Tampa will likely continue to struggle scoring anything besides field goals in this game.

5. Jeremy Shockey – NO = @TB

A solid matchup for Shockey against Tampa this week, could have him tallying 5 receptions for 50-75 receiving yards with a touchdown possible.

6. Heath Miller – Pit = @KC

7. Greg Olsen – Chi = Phi

8. Jason Witten – Dal = Was

9. Brent Celek – Phi = @Chi

10. Vernon Davis – SF = @GB

Just as the Packers put Charles Woodson on Jason Witten last week and shut down the TE, I think it is reasonable to assume the same thing happens in this game, as Davis is clearly the 49ers best receiving option. Be prepared for a big bust week from Davis, but his potential is still worth a starting spot on most fantasy teams depending on your other options.
