The FFPC Playoff Challenge

John Duckworth may or may not have had a decent 2009 fantasy season. But he
has one hell of a post-season when he cashed for ,500 in last year’s FFPC
Playoff Challenge! On just a 0 entry fee, John bested 191 other teams to
take  down  the  big cash. Well, this year the FFPC has gone crazy and
guaranteed the prize payouts right away.

Here are the Official Rules for the 2009/2010 FFPC Playoff Challenge:

1. FFPC scoring rules are in effect.

2.  Each team will consist of 10 NFL players in a FFPC starting roster
format: 1-QB, 2-RB, 2-WR, 1-TE, 2-Flex, 1-K, 1-D

3. Each team will choose 10 players from any of the 12 playoff teams but
ONLY ONE PLAYER PER TEAM. To be clear, if you choose Peyton Manning as your
QB, you may NOT have any more Colt players on your roster.

4. This will be your roster for the duration of the playoffs and you will
not make any changes. As NFL teams get knocked out of the playoffs, so will
your players so draft your team accordingly.

5. Each week’s score will be added to your team’s total and the Superbowl
will count as DOUBLE the points. So instead of 1ppr it will be 2ppr, instead
of 6 pts per TD, it will be 12 pts per TD, etc, etc. This is done to create
a little more excitement the last game of the season and give teams a chance
to make up a deficit in the standings. Teams with the highest point total
after the Superbowl will be the winners. In the event of a tie, say #1 and
#2 finishing teams, the 1st & 2nd place prize money will be combined and
evenly divided between the two teams.

6. The NFL playoffs are scheduled to begin Saturday, January 8th, the time
has yet been announced by the NFL. The deadline for roster and payment
submission is 11:00AM Eastern on Saturday, January 8th but we encourage
everyone to submit their rosters as soon as possible. DEADLINE FOR ROSTER
SUBMISSION HAS BEEN MOVED TO SATURDAY 4:00PM EASTERN

7. We are working with RTSports to have the invites sent to each owner, so
that they can login and make roster changes as they see fir prior to the
first game’s kickoff.

8. All rosters and scoring will be loaded and tracked on a RTSports league
page (on leagues.myffpc.com) and all rosters will be made public prior to
the start of the playoffs. Your existing FFPC login will work if you use the
same email address.

9. Entry Fee is 0 and registration has been created. You will be able to
register online using your credit card or you can mail a check/MO to the

You probably watched at least part of the Super Bowl earlier this month. Most people did. And if you enjoy watching football as much as I do, you’ve probably seen more than one player go down with some kind of head injury. It just comes with the territory.
Problem is, it comes with your horse’s territory, too. As gregarious as horses can be, they are definitely susceptible to head injuries. But can they really be life-threatening?
It’s scary enough to see a horse with a head injury. It’s even worse to have watched it happen. I’ve seen them rear so high they fall backwards. That’s scary.
Sometimes a horse may haul off and kick his paddock mates in the face in an effort to achieve the rank of Alpha Horse. Then there’s the not-so-smart horse who collides with an immovable object like a tree – sometimes at a high rate of speed and for no apparent reason. Go figure.
Horse head injuries are nothing to take lightly. Even though it’s one of the least likely injuries your horse will ever have, that doesn’t make it any less of a concern for you as a horse owner. And the biggest concern you have is for your horse’s brain.
Brain protection is one area where your horse has a distinct advantage over us humans. Even though our human skulls only afford 1/4 inch of protection for our brains, your horse’s brain has significantly more protection.
This is mainly because his brain tucked further back in his head than ours is. Plus he has a network of 26 bones to protect his brain. You and I only have 1. So even though a horse head injury can look pretty gruesome, it’s probably not as bad as you might think.
Now, don’t get me wrong. You need to take all horse head injuries seriously. The chances that your horse damaged his brain are slim, but only your equine vet can be sure.

I’ll cover those in a future article in this series. When I do, you’ll be able to tell whether your horse might have a real brain injury, or just “got his bell rung.”
But what I want you to go home with today is this: Your horse’s skull provides a lot of valuable protection to his brain. And it’s a darn good thing.
A professional football player with an injury like this would most likely be out for the season. Is your horse that much tougher than a pro athlete? Maybe. But the biggest advantage your horse has is the general construction of his head. It gives him an advantage of us in the event of a head trauma.

There is a good chance that five of the remaining teams can remain undefeated, while the top two teams in the country Florida, and Alabama face off this weekend for the SEC championship with the loser not only losing the SEC Championship game but also will have no shot at the National Championship. Here is a break down of this weekend games for the remaining five undefeated teams that play this weekend. Only TCU is guaranteed to have an undefeated season as the have already finished up their season and awaits the outcome of this weekends games. (1) Florida vs. (2) Alabama 4:00PM CBS Normally this would be the National championship game if four other teams did not go undefeated the whole season also. This game is a rematch of the SEC championship game from last year where the Florida Gators were able to pull it and go on to win the BCS national Championship game over the Oklahoma Sooners. (3) Texas vs. (22) Nebraska 8:00PM ABC Even though it would seem that Texas should easily dominate Nebraska that will not be the case at all. Nebraska has found a way to win and show what they are made of every game this year, and lately they are clicking on all cylinders. Although Texas is the favorite to win being led by Heisman hopeful quarterback Colt McCoy who has been punishing teams with arm and running ability. (5) Cincinnati vs. (15) Pittsburgh 12:00PM ABC This will be one of the most exciting games in big east history. The Bearcats of Cincinnati features two of the best quarterbacks in college football playing on the same team. The Bearcats have used their highflying passing game to quickly outscore their opponents before you can blink an eye. But do not count out Pittsburgh they have one of the best offensive lines and running back in the country. If you give Dion Lewis any room to run the ball it is over, not even the Bearcats defense can stop him in open field.
