Navy will play its third bowl game in San Diego in six years, returning to the city with the largest naval base on the West Coast. In 2005, the Midshipmen pummeled Colorado State 51-30 during the inaugural Poinsettia Bowl before falling 35-32 to Utah two years later. A bowl victory on the Aztecs’ home field would give the service academy 10 wins in consecutive years for the first time.
With Ricky Dobbs as the focal point of the triple option, the Midshipmen have one of the nation’s top rushing offenses. However, Dobbs isn’t the only backfield threat for Navy. The Aztecs also must try and stop Alexander Teich (825 yards, five TDs) and Gee Gee Greene (459 yards, five TDs) as they helped the Midshipmen finish the regular season fifth in the nation with 288.9 rushing yards per game.

San Diego State, meanwhile, allowed the third-fewest rushing yards in the Mountain West (1,704), holding four teams to fewer than 90 on the ground this season. Linebacker Miles Burris led the team with 74 tackles and 9 1/2 sacks. Besides a solid run defense, the Aztecs have a high-powered offense as well. Ryan Lindley was the Mountain West’s top quarterback with 3,554 passing yards. His 26 touchdown passes tied TCU’s Andy Dalton for most in the conference. Lindley will be throwing to the top two receivers in the MWC. DeMarco Sampson caught 65 passes for 1,175 yards and eight scores, while Vincent Brown had 61 catches for 1,187 yards and nine touchdowns and was named the team’s MVP.
SDSU also has a star running back. Ronnie Hillman, the conference freshman of year, set the league’s single-season freshman rushing record with 1,304 yards and ran for at least 150 five times. SDSU went 5-1 this season at Qualcomm Stadium, but has dropped three straight postseason games since beating Boston University in the 1969 Pasadena Bowl.
The Midshipmen will control the clock with long scoring drives and pull the upset. Bet College Football Online and take Navy to win the game.

Murfreesboro-Last year the Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders were expected to lead the conference from start to finish. The early suspension of QB Dasher threw the Blue Raiders off balance and they started slow at 2-3. They did manage to win their last 3 conference games to finish 5-3 and made it to another bowl game under Head Coach Stockstill. Looking back at last year’s team, the glaring problems were two fold, turnover margin and lack of run defense. Although QB Dwight Dasher was a major weapon as a runner and passer, his 18 interceptions in a shortened season were too much to overcome. Too many drives were halted by a fumble or interception. The other problem was a lack of tackling by the front seven. The two starting safeties were 1st and 3rd in tackles which is never a good sign. This year, thanks to graduation, especially on defense, expectations are not as high.
Can Middle Tennessee State get more consistent play at QB? Can their ball carriers hold on to the ball? Can their young defense force some turnovers? These are the questions for the Blue Raiders this year.
For 2011, Head Coach Stockstill promoted two position coaches to coordinator roles this year. OC Willie Simmons and DC Steve Ellis should keep things pretty similar to past years. Vying to replace Dasher at the starting QB position are Sophomore Logan Kilgore and Jr. Jeff Murphy. Both saw action last season. I expected Kilgore to be the starter when the season begins. At RB, Philip Tanner who led the team in rushing with 928 yards and 13 tds will be missed. Jr. Ben Cunningham who Stockstill believes is a leader, is expected to start. He will run behind an offensive line that returns 4 starters with the only loss being 2nd Team All Sun Belt Conference OL Mark Fisher. Although the Blue Raiders lose their best receiver from a year ago, Garret Andrews, the group appears to have plenty of depth.
My Take-The offense will be much better off without Dasher who often killed the spirit of the team with his foolish throws. The offensive line should provide the new QBs good protection and some holes for Cunnighman to run threw. I expect more consistent play from the offense.
]]>
The defense was hard hit by graduation. The Blue Raiders were solid against the pass thanks partly due to graduated 1st Team ASBC DE Jamari Lattimore who registered 11 ½ sacks. This year the whole defensive front must be replaced. The linebacker group who lacked production last year loses its leading tackler buy has game experience and will be boosted by the return of some players who sat out last year because of injuries. The secondary lost two excellent safeties who were tackle machines. Jeremy Kellem and Kevin Brown combined for 103 solo tackles last year. One starter at CB returns, Arness Ikner who played in all 13 games last year. Normally the Blue Raiders can be counted on to be solid against the pass. This year without the pressure on the QB and replacing ¾ of the secondary, I would expect them to be slightly more vulnerable against the pass.
My Take-The defense failed to force turnovers last year and with less experience in many key positions, the defensive numbers will be towards the middle of the conference.
Special Teams-The placekicker and punter both return
Overall, despite many injuries in the spring and youth on defense, I think more consistent play from QB Kilgore behind a solid line should make MTSU bowl eligible again but finishing behind the Troy Trojans.

It will be a SEC showdown on Saturday at 3:30pm EST when the Georgia Bulldogs (5-5) travel to face the #2 Auburn Tigers (10-0) from Jordan-Stadium. Online sportsbooks have listed Auburn -6 betting favorites at home in week 11 college football odds vs Georgia while the over/under total is set at 63 for the game that can be seen on CBS television. While the Tigers will look to stay undefeated this season, the Bulldogs will simply be trying to go one game above .500 in regular season stats and break .500 in SEC conference play (3-4).
Georgia is heading into college football week 11 picks as underdogs on the road simply because they have done nothing this season to prove they are not just a mediocre team. Although the Bulldogs do have wins over Tennessee, Vanderbilt, Kentucky and Florida, Georgia has lost to South Carolina, Arkansas and Colorado to prove that this is indeed a rebuilding year. Last week, the Bulldogs were able to pull off a 55-7 win at home vs Idaho State and barely covered the 45.5-point spread as favorites in college football odds to go to 5-5 ATS for the season. “We have a chance to win a huge game,” LB Christian Robinson said this week. “That would make things a lot better. That would make people feel a lot better about this season.”
As for Auburn, they are the #2 ranked team in the country heading into college football week 11 picks but have a cloud of controversy hanging over their heads as questions regarding junior QB Cameron Newton (Heisman Trophy candidate) and his involvement with off-field tactics involving money to play for Mississippi State, Auburn and cheating on schoolwork. Regardless of the outcome, the Tigers have had an exemplary season defeating everyone in their path, including South Carolina, Arkansas and LSU. Auburn had no problem dismantling Chattanooga 62-24 last week at home but failed to cover the 43-point spread as favorites in college football odds to drop to 6-4 ATS for the season.

The Clemson Tigers can get back into the thick of the Atlantic Coast Conference Atlantic Division race with a win Saturday night at slumping Florida State. Kick-off is set for 8:05pm EST and online sportsbooks have opened with Florida State as a 6-point favorite in college football week 11 picks with an over/under of 44. The money line has opened with Florida State as a -240 favorite and Clemson as a +200 underdog for the game that can be seen on ABC television.
The resurgent and defending Atlantic Division champion Clemson Tigers have a record of 5-4 straight up and 3-6 against the spread in college football odds with 7 of their games going UNDER the total. Clemson has won 3 of their last 4 games and scored a big win over North Carolina State last week 14-13 although the failed to cover the college football odds as 3.5 point home favorites. The Tigers have been saved by their defense that ranks 12th in the nation for points allowed. The offense has struggled and ranks 70th for scoring and 90th overall. The Florida State Seminoles have lost 2 consecutive games at North Carolina State and then last week to North Carolina at home 37-35 as a field goal attempt at the gun failed to bail them out.
The Seminoles head into college football week 11 picks ranking only 42nd for total offense while the defense is a respectable 25th for points allowed. Quarterback Christian Ponder gets a lot of attention but has been good rather than great with a less than super 6.8 yards per attempt and a 16/7 TD/INT ratio. Chris Thompson has been lights out with 534 yards rushing and a 7.4 yards per carry average. Jermaine Thomas has averaged 5.9 yards per carry while Ty Jones is at 7.6 yards per attempt on the ground to make for a powerful attack. The host has paid out the college football odds for 11 of the last 12 in this series which has gone OVER 5 consecutive times at Florida State.
College Football Picks: Clemson Tigers +6
Tuesday night football will feature a battle in the MAC conference when the Ohio Bobcats (7-3) travel to take on the Temple Owls (8-2) at 8:00pm EST from Lincoln Financial Field for the game that can be seen on ESPN2 television or online at ESPN3.com. Online sportsbooks have listed Temple -7.5 betting favorites on the road in week 12 college football picks vs Ohio while the over/under total is set at 43.5. Sportsbooks also favor the Owls -320 in Tuesday night college football odds for week 12 on the money line vs the Bobcats +260. Something has got to give tonight as both teams are 5-1 in MAC conference action and both are tied for first place.
Temple has had as good of a season as one could ask for having lost only two games this season to Penn State 13-22 and Northern Illinois 17-31. Since the loss to the Huskies, the Owls have won four straight games including a 28-10 victory on the road last week vs Kent State. Temple won by 18-points to easily cover the 3-point spread in college football picks, go 7-3 ATS for the season and embarrass Vegas odds makers who are still having a hard time making correct spreads this late in the season. Now the Owls will take on Ohio at home where they have gone a stellar 5-0 in college football picks at Lincoln Financial field for sole possession of first place in the MAC conference.
Not many handicappers really knew what to make of the Bobcats early in the season as Ohio went 1-3 in college football picks heading into week 5. However, the Bobcats turned their season around having not lost since, winning six straight games including last week’s 34-17 victory vs Buffalo. Ohio won by 17-points and just barely covered the 16-point spread as favorites in college football odds to go 6-3 ATS for the season. Although the Bobcats are 5-0 for their last 5 games, it is doubtful that QB Boo Jackson will get the start after suffering a concussion during an altercation at a bar. It is expected that back-up QB Phil Bates will get behind the center on Tuesday night football despite still recovering from a shoulder injury.
College Football Picks: Temple Owls -7.5
A fading program and coach will start off their season against a program and coach on the rise from M&T Bank Stadium in Baltimore as the Maryland Terrapins meet the Navy Midshipmen at the home of the NFL Ravens. Kick-off is scheduled for 4:00pm EST for the game that can be seen on ESPN. Online sportsbooks have opened with Navy -6 in college football betting picks with an over/under total of 48.5. Ralph Friedgen begins his 10th season at his Alma Mater as a dead man coaching. “The Fridge” and his Terrapins slipped to a horrific 2-10 college football betting season after an 8-5 bowl campaign in 2008. The Terps return 7 starters on offense and 5 on defense.
Junior QB Jamarr Robinson takes over as the new signal caller. Friedgen’s offense has been stagnant the past 4 years in college football odds as it has averaged a mediocre 21 points per game for 3 of those seasons including last year. The defense imploded last year as it allowed 31 PPG, a 9 point increase from 2008. Maryland has had just 2 winning seasons in college football picks out of the last 6 and has not won 10 games or more since 2003. Friedgen has not recruited game breaking talent and it has shown.
Navy is coming off a fabulous 10-4 season in college football odds in which they killed Missouri in the Texas Bowl 35-13 as well as winning at Notre Dame and nearly upsetting Ohio State at The Shoe. Head coach Ken Niumatalolo has maintained the standards of previous coach Paul Johnson and has 8 starters back on offense that scored 28 PPG led by senior QB Ricky Dobbs, who ran for 1367 yards and 27 TD’s. The defense returns 5 starters after allowing 19 PPG last year. Navy has covered 14 out of their last 22 games as favorites in college football picks when playing at neutral site games.
The Southeastern Conference East Division title will be on the line Saturday night when the #22 Florida Gators host the #23 South Carolina Gamecocks. Kick-off is scheduled for 7:20pm EST with a telecast on ESPN. Online sportsbooks have opened with Florida as a 6.5 point favorite in college football picks with an over/under of 51.5. The moneyline has opened with Florida as a -250 favorite in college football odds while South Carolina is listed as a +210 underdog. The South Carolina Gamecocks have their best ever shot at an SEC title since Steve Spurrier took over as coach in 2005.
Spurrier returns to “The Swamp” where he won the Heisman Trophy as Florida’s quarterback in 1966 and also where he led Florida into prominence as a perennial national championship contender in the 1990′s which included a national title. South Carolina has a record of 6-3 straight up and 4-5 against the spread in college football picks with 7 of their games going over the total. The Gamecocks are coming off a 41-20 home loss to Arkansas but the game was virtually meaningless and they were likely peaking ahead to this one. The big question is which Stephen Garcia the Gamecocks will get at quarterback. Garcia was brilliant in the big win over Alabama but has been erratic at other times.
Freshman Marcus Lattimore has emerged as a star with a team best 752 yards rushing and the defense has been slumping to now rank 62nd in college football odds. Florida has a record of 6-3 straight up and 5-4 against the spread with 6 of their games going over the total. The Gators have found their stride and have won 2 consecutive games in college football picks including last week’s 55-14 payout at Vanderbilt. The defense has become rock ribbed and ranks 7th in the land while the offense is climbing and now ranks 39th in scoring. Florida has paid out in 4 of their last 5 home games against South Carolina.
College Football Week 11 Picks: South Carolina +6.5
