The LSU offense is stacked. There is an abundance of talent at the running back and receiver positions. The Tigers also have an experienced and talented offensive line. But who will be under center? Ryan Perrilloux, MVP of the SEC title game, was dismissed from the team for repeated team rules violations. The guys behind Perrilloux on the depth chart, Jarrett Lee and Andrew Hatch, have basically no experience at this level.
The LSU running game looks to be a three-headed monster. Keiland Williams (478 yards, 6 touchdowns), Charles Scott (439 total yards, 7 touchdowns) and Richard Murphy (304 total yards, 2 touchdowns) all figure to play a significant role in the LSU rushing attack.
The Tigers also have one of the best receiver tandems in the nation. Brandon LaFell and speedy Demetrius Byrd combined for 85 receptions, 1,277 yards and 11 touchdowns last season. Tight end Richard Dickson is another great receiving threat.
With four starters back this season, LSU boasts one of the most experienced offensive lines in the SEC. Left tackle Ciron Black, left guard Herman Johnson and center Brett Helms have All-SEC talent.
There is plenty of depth along the defensive line. Tyson Jackson and Kirston Pittman are the returning starters at the ends. They’ll get help from Rahim Alem and Ricky Jean-Francois, the defensive MVP of the BCS Championship Game. Jean-Francois, Marlon Favorite and Charles Alexander lead the rotation inside. Al Woods and Drake Nevis could also see significant action.
Middle linebacker Darry Beckwith played the last few games of 2007 with an injured shoulder, but still recorded 65 tackles in 12 games. Beckwith will have a new starter on each side. Perry Riley, Kelvin Sheppard and Jacob Cuttera will be competing for the two starting outside linebacker jobs.
In the secondary, free safety Curtis Taylor is the lone returning starter. Nickel back Danny McCray is also back for 2008. Chad Jones and Harry Coleman will compete for time at strong safety. There will also be a lot of competition for the two starting cornerback spots. Chris Hawkins, Jai Eugene, Patrick Johnson and Brandon Taylor are all in the mix.
Senior kicker Colt David is back. David converted all 63 extra-point tries last season and also connected on 26-of-33 field goal attempts. All-SEC punter Patrick Fisher is gone. Senior Brady Dalfrey is Fisher’s likely replacement.
The defending national champs will have a tough row to hoe this year. With a question mark at quarterback and a schedule that will have them playing at Auburn and Florida, as well as a home game against Georgia, this could be a two- or three-loss season for the Tigers. Another national title run doesn’t appear likely. A BCS bowl game for LSU should be viewed as a successful season.

When Johnson arrived at LSU in 2004, he was one of the most highly recruited and biggest linemen in the nation at 6-7 and 400 pounds. But that didn’t assure him an instant success because of an infection from a spider bite. He was granted a medical red shirt. Played in just two games and missed all of fall camp. But it was a different story on his graduation day. Not only he managed to shed 50 pounds but also became the first LSU offensive line man to be named in AP All- American first team. It was for the first time that a lineman from LSU was named in to the AP since Alan Faneca in 1997. He is likely to make it to the middle round draft and make his first million.
He never wanted to go pro and hated the game in school as he and his team never won. But it was then, when the coaches took notice of this hulking monster. He was 6 feet 5 inches then. And it was his coaches who convinced him to take the game more seriously, allured him with the scholarship he could get at the college and a career playing NFL. So he agreed, pulled up his socks and put his heart and soul in the game. At high school he was one of the most talented offensive lineman in the nation, Graded out at 88 percent at tackle and did not allow an entire sack his senior season.
Nicknamed “the House”; Johnson majored in communication and sports studies. He graduated with a degree in business administration from LSU. But the news of getting into AP All ? America was still a bit of shock for the House as the season didn’t go that well for him and LSU.
He will be playing his last game for LSU on Dec. 31 in the Chick-fil-A Bowl in Atlanta when the Tigers (7-5) meet No. 14 Georgia Tech (9-3). His career record as a starter for the Tigers is 29-8. Johnson played in 11 games as a red shirt freshman with one start behind established starter Will Arnold at guard. Arnold was injured mostly and thus Johnson started the last 10 games in 2006. In 2007 he started 14 games and in 2008 season he started 12 games and has played a total of 37 games in his LSU career.
He has evolved into a player and his game has increased leaps and bounds. He is now one of the most physically imposing players in college football; he can physically overpower the defensive tackles. He can now play both tackle positions with equal dexterity. He has everything it is needed to be a dominant player, a huge frame, speed and nimble skills.
This humble, monster is definitely a ?look-out- for’ talent. He believes that he owe his success to his coaches and hold them responsible for changing his life.

Don’t you just love this time of year? Wait a minute… This isn’t the usual autumn Saturday in the NCAA ranks. The leftover unbeatens are now dropping from the top 5 as the 6-10 make their push in this merry-go-round with the pollers.
I believe we can determine now that it’s going to be a miracle to see anything over 1 undefeated team from major conferences. So now comes the speculation on who’s going to be there when the time comes to set the bowls, and better yet, who’s coming out on top of this poll?
Just to give you a quick glimpse of my own top 5 (I am a UGA fan, but no bias here)..
#5 USC – Back to their old defensive ways in a 28-0 rout of a major disappointment in an Arizona State team that was supposed to give the Pac-10 teams a run for their money. The 1-loss teams are now beginning to seep into the top 5 as the Trojans get back into title talks.
#4 Florida – After dismantling the LSU Tigers by 30, they are back on their feet again. Tebow and the Gators most certainly got the attention of the voters, persuading a few of them into believing that the 1 point loss to Ole Miss is a thing of the past and that they are legit in their chase for the BCS.
#3 Penn State – Has anybody gotten close to this team yet? Nobody (and I mean NOBODY) is creating a challenge as they are pushing Illinois, Wisconsin, and Oregon State aside as if they were playing a bunch of Pop Warner kids every Saturday. Not to forget that this is the same Oregon State club that downed USC a few weeks back, and the Nittany Lions take them by 31 points in week 2. If Joe Paterno is winding his career down here in the next year, you can’t find a better opportunity to send him off with a bang.
#2 Texas – Can’t quite give them a jump to #1 quite yet. It was a very poorly officiated game, but the Horns were able to finally breakthrough and keep OU at a distance. Colt McCoy’s speed threw off the Sooners, but their defense was burned pretty well by the Sam Bradford show. I need to see a little bit more from the Defensive squad before I can push them over this #1 team..
#1 Alabama – Crushing a Clemson team that was destined for an ACC crown, going into Georgia and embarrassing the Bulldogs in one of the toughest places to play, and piling up a 3-0 record in one of the roughest conferences you’ll see, the Crimson Tide deserve this top spot in next week’s polls. Their defense is absolutely monsterous. Don’t look at the 30 points against UGA.. That was a 2nd half letdown because the game was already out of reach, but outside of that, 14 points is the most they’ve allowed to anybody this season. John Parker Wilson adds a nice balance to this team along with the RB by committee with Coffee and Ingram. Until they go down, the Tide should be rolling easy in the top spot.
Only 1 team looks like a challenge on Alabama’s schedule, and that was the LSU team that just got torched against the Gators. It’s an easy road to the SEC title game, so destiny lies in their own hands. Texas can say the same thing because the Big 12 is the bigger of the Bigs with the Big 12 struggling with the OSU stomping by USC with Michigan belly up already.
With that said, I do hope Penn State goes unbeaten (with a schedule including that OSU team) with the others. That could only pile more controversy onto the BCS. Would it be enough to finally break the system and force it to a playoff format? I would hope so, since this is like the only collegiate arena that does not hold a postseason system. Just like Auburn was jobbed a few years back, one of these 3 teams has a fan base that will make enough noise to rattle up a controversy.
Playoff or not, we’re in for a crazy finish to the NCAA Football season, and we’re not even half-way through it yet!

LSU Tigers would wear white during their football games because of a tradition that has been started in 1958 by Coach Paul Dietzel.
Unlike college basketball, where the home teams wear white or the lighter-colored jerseys, most NCAA football teams wear their darker colored jerseys to home games. The LSU Tigers is noted for being one of the few to wear white jerseys. Let’s find out how did this tradition started.
Paul Dietzel’s Decision
In 1958, LSU’s coach, Paul Dietzel, decided that the team would be wearing their white jerseys for the home games. They then won the national championship that same year. Believing it was good luck, the team decided to make it a tradition to wear white to their home games.
However, in 1982, new NCAA rules were passed which stated that home teams must wear darker colors in home games, prohibiting LSU from wearing white from 1983 to 1994. It wasn’t until 1995, when LSU was granted permission by the NCAA to be able to continue with their tradition of wearing white.
Gerry DiNardo’s lobbying
In 1995, their new coach, Gerry DiNardo, determined to bring back the tradition of wearing white, took it upon himself to appeal to the NCAA. He personally met members of the Football Rules Committee. His effort has paid off and the LSU team began wearing white every time they have their homes games. This was since 1995. The only stipulation was that the visiting team must agree to wear their darker jersey colors during these games. Ever since, LSU only had to wear their purple jerseys to home games 3 times. (Once was during a game against Vanderbilt in 1996. Vanderbilt refused since they were still angry at DiNardo leaving Vanderbilt to coach LSU.)
In 2009, NCAA amended their rules once more, no longer restricting teams on whether they should wear their lighter-colored jerseys to home games or not. Just as long as teams wore contrasting colors.

2009 college football season quickly approaching, anticipations are high, especially for fans of the Southeastern Conference. Coming off another national championship, thanks to the commanding Urban Meyer and his Florida Gators, the SEC is a proud conference with a long tradition of championships. If you are looking for a smooth avenue for football betting, you may not wish to look any further than the SEC brand of football. After all, many preseason football polls have the SEC accounting for four teams in the top ten including Florida, Alabama, LSU, and Ole Miss. While Ole Miss Head Coach Houston Nutt has traditionally choked under pressure when expectations are high, the other three teams are consistently rock solid. And before you commence football betting for this season, examine the impact these teams are poised to make on the rest of the college football world. Alabama: Nick Saban’s big move to Crimson Tide country rattled a lot of cages, but none more so than those found in Louisiana. The coach built his legendary reputation on the campus of Louisiana State University, where he brought home a national championship and two SEC championships in his tenure from 2000-2004. After a lackluster professional career with the Miami Dolphins that lasted only one season, he made his triumphant return to the SEC with a different team. The Crimson Tide, in two seasons of Saban tutelage, has already won the SEC Western Division once, and held the #1 team in the nation slot until Florida knocked them from their throne late last season. LSU: If the LSU Tigers are holding a grudge against Nick Saban, it certainly hasn’t shown. Since Alabama’s new head coach left the Tigers in 2004, LSU has enjoyed an additional SEC and national championship, thanks in part to coaching stalwart Les Miles. After a disappointing 2008-2009 season that saw the Tigers close with a loss to the talent-zapped Arkansas Razorbacks (in their first year under new head coach Bobby Petrino, no less), you can bet that this is a program itching for redemption. Florida: It is very hard to do an analysis of these teams without placing the focus on coaching. Saban and Miles are both highly successful coaches, but the real story when it comes to blowing the whistle is with the Florida Gators. In just four years, Head Coach Urban Meyer has won two national championships. And that was after having gone unbeaten in his short time with the Utah Utes. Meyer has developed a reputation as someone who has his teams prepared. His brief career, in addition to the national titles, includes two SEC championships and two Mountain West Conference championships. He has already had a Hall of Fame-worthy career, but will it be enough for the 2009 college football season? Only time will tell. Agree or disagree with any of the above? Luckily, you will have a chance to prove your football betting skills. And if you want, there are sportsbooks that make it a little easier for you by offering a bookmaker bonus. With a bookmaker bonus, you enjoy rewards simply by placing your bets with an experienced service. You are going to take part in the football betting season anyway, so why not take advantage of the incentives, such as the bookmaker bonus codes you can get from any reputable company? The road to the national championship goes through the SEC. Get in on the action for Saturdays that are both relaxing and rewarding.
