It has been an interesting summer at anfield this year. It started by seeing the end of the Rafa Benetiz era and the start of a new one. One where for a few months alot of fans didn’t know which way it was going to turn out. Good or bad?

Then came the appointment of Roy Hodgson. One that was met with mixed reactions. Was he the one to steady the ship at liverpool or was he just the cheapest option for the currently disliked board.

And then…………… Roy Hodgson proved to all the football world he had the experience and the knowledge to help Liverpool football club to not only steady the ship but also put them back into contention for the top four and get a belief back into the fans. He managed to pull off a major free transfer. That of Joe Cole.

Joe Cole signed on a free transfer after being released by chelsea. He made it clear to all the fans that Liverpool Football Club had started a new era and that he was confident that it would be Roy Hodgson that would lead them to this.

The day after even more great news for Liverpool Fans. Steven Gerrard publicly after months of speculation about his future commits to Liverpool Football Club. Stating his love and desire to want to win titles at the club playing along side Joe Cole.

Finally the news may Liverpool fans had been waiting for. Serious take over news. A chinese businessman announces his interest in Liverpool Football Club and states he wants to buy the club within 6 weeks. Then 4 other interested groups confirm thier interest in Liverpool FC.

Whilst all this is going on there are still many fans worrying about Fernando Torres. Was he going to stay or go? Then he returned to Melwood for training and after speaking to Roy Hodgson and Christian Purslow he announced his desire to stay.

And now today on the 9th August it seems that Liverpool Football Club has been taken over by a candian based group with investors from the middle east. They have already started to clear the club debts and start work on the new stadium along with allowing the new liverpool manager to buy the remaining players on his wish list.

Overall what an exciting summer it has been for liverpool football club. They have had a new manager a new exciting signing in Joe Cole along with some excellent youth prospects breaking thru and with the support of Gerrard and Torres forming a mouth watering attack of Cole, Gerrard and Torres, Liverpool Football Club clear of debt and with a new stadium start a new era.

Liverpool The City

Liverpool’s Anglican Cathedral is the biggest cathedral in Britain and the 5th largest in the world. Liverpool is home to the oldest Chinese and African communities in Europe. Liverpool carried out and financed the 1st ever Atlantic telegraph cable in 1886. Liverpool is home to the Grand National, the most famous steeplechase in the world. The Liverpool Hotel and Hotel Liverpool as well as the Liverpool Adelphi are great places to reside and you’ll be in reach of Liverpool Restaurants and other attractions. Whatever you do, you’ll need a map of Liverpool to find your way around the old city. Don’t forget to visit the excellent Tate Gallery in Liverpool, this is located at the redeveloped Albert Dock.

Club

Club followers from Asia know as much about Liverpool FC as some of the best well-versed and most loyal fans in the UK. Clubs that regularly win high-profile trophies make more coverage, both at home and aboard, and command much higher prices. On July 30, 2004, the Liverpool City Council gave the club planning permission to build a new 60,000 seater stadium, nearby at Stanley Park. Many clubs have moved to new grounds in the last 10 years. Liverpool Football Club is the most successful club in the history of English football.

Football

Football has always been watched by all classes, this working class vibe is more attached to particular clubs than it is to the game as a whole. While the word Liverpool clearly denotes the city of Liverpool in the United Kingdom, and elsewhere, the name Liverpool FC is, in its ordinary signification, related exclusively with the Liverpool Football Club. I count myself very lucky to have been around during the wonderful years after promotion back into the 1st Division, proud to have wonderful memories of wonderful times, Bill Shankly, Joe Mercer, Don Revie and the players of the time and say good luck to the new world of scouse Football.

Anfield

Anfield itself is vastly different to what it looked like 2, 5 and 10 years ago not to mention 20, 50 or even 100 years ago. The highlight for many, however, is the chance to walk down the famous players’ tunnel and touch the famous ‘This is Anfield’ sign. The Anfield atmosphere, history and fabric is all part of the club. The fact is that LFC is Anfield and Anfield is LFC. The club offers tours of its stadium, Anfield, which include a visit to the dressing rooms and a chair in the team dugouts.

European

European triumphs at the Stadio Olympico, Stad de Lutz and as recently as the Westfalenstadion are witness to what Liverpool Football Club is all about. The club was present at two of the prevalent tragedies in European football — at Heysel in 1985 and Hillsborough in 1989. Liverpool made their first impact on the European circuit in 1973 with a UEFA Cup triumph, as well as winning another league title that season. In recent years, the city has emphasised its cultural attractions, winning the award of European City of Culture for 2008.

Liverpool Football Club have had so many great players (not to mention managers), that it’s impossible to make up a list that everyone will agree with. Here’s what I think (I haven’t considered current players so Stevie G, Carra etc. are not included);

Billy Liddell (Winger/Forward, 1938-1960) Appearances: 53 Goals: 229

Liddell joined Liverpool Football Club as a 15 year old in 1930 and remained at the club until 1960. Primarily a left winger, he also excelled as a striker. Such was his influence that during the 1950’s Liverpool were nicknamed “Liddellpool”. He was voted Liverpool’s sixth most influential player of all time in a 2006 poll.

Bill Shankly (Manager, 1959-1974)

One of the greatest managers in the history of English football. Appointed in 1959, Shankly transformed Liverpool from a struggling Second Division side to a powerhouse of English and European football. During his tenure Liverpool won 3 league championships, two FA Cups and the UEFA Cup. Shankly retired in 1974, having laid the groundwork for Liverpool’s most successful era.

Ian St John, (Forward, 1961-1971) Appearances: 426 Goals: 118

Bought from Motherwell in 1961, St. John quickly became a crowd favourite by scoring on his debut against Everton. A wonderful header of the ball despite being only 5”7, “The Saint” formed a lethal striking partnership with Roger Hunt. Moved to Coventry in 1971 having won two league titles and an FA Cup with Liverpool.

Roger Hunt (Striker, 1959-1970) Appearances: 492 Goals: 286

Holds the Liverpool record for most league goals as well as the single season goal scoring record. His partnership with Ian St. John was a cornerstone of Liverpool’s success during the sixties. Won two league titles and an FA Cup medal before moving to Bolton in 1970.

Bob Paisley (Manager, 1974-1983)

Paisley’s achievements surpassed even those of the great Bill Shankly. After reluctantly taking over as manager in 1974, the former Liverpool skipper delivered 6 league titles, 3 European Cups, 3 League Cups and the UEFA Cup during his nine years in charge. After his retirement Paisley was appointed a director of Liverpool Football Club.

Tommy Smith (Defender, 1962-1978) Appearances: 637 Goals: 48

Usually remembered as a hard man, which distracts from his skill and subtlety as a player. Smith was the first Liverpool captain to lift a European trophy (the UEFA Cup in 1973). Won 4 league titles, 2 FA Cups, 2 UEFA Cups and the European Cup. Left to join Swansea in 1978.

Emlyn Hughes (Defender, 1967-1979) Appearances: 665 Goals: 48

The first captain of Liverpool Football Club to win the European Cup. An inspirational central defender who also chipped in with some spectacular goals. Hughes won 4 league titles, 2 European Cups, 2 UEFA Cups and the FA Cup, before moving to Wolves in 1979.

Ray Clemence (Goalkeeper, 1968-1981) Appearances: 666

Clemence joined Liverpool from Scunthorpe in 1968, and made his senior debut in 1969. Over the next 12 years he collected twelve trophies and kept an amazing 335 clean sheets before moving to Tottenham in 1981.

Kevin Keegan (Striker, 1971-1977) Appearances: 323 Goals: 100

Formed a deadly strike partnership with John Toshack which helped Liverpool to 3 League titles, two UEFA Cups, a European Cup and an FA Cup. Keegan scored 100 goals for Liverpool before a move to SV Hamburg, where he was twice named European Footballer of the Year.

Kenny Dalglish, (Forward, 1977-1990) Appearances: 515 Goals: 172

Regarded by most Reds fans as the greatest player to ever represent Liverpool Football Club. Signed from Celtic in 1977, Dalglish soon won the fans over by scoring seven minutes into his debut. Never the quickest, Dalglish compensated with superb ball control and speed of thought. His time at the club saw Liverpool win 13 major trophies, including 3 League titles as player/manager. Dalglish quit as Liverpool manager in 1991, and later managed Blackburn Rovers to the Premier League title.

Alan Hansen, (Defender, 1977-1990) Appearances: 623 Goals: 13

A skillful, elegant, centre half whose skill and vision was as effective setting up attacks as stopping the opposition. Hansen won an incredible eight league titles and three European Cups during his time at Anfield. He retired due to injury in 1990 and is now a respected football pundit.

Ian Rush, (Striker, 1980-1987 & 1988-1996) Appearances: 660 Goals: 346

Liverpool’s all-time record goalscorer. Rush had two spells with the club split by a season spent with Juventus (1987-88). During his Liverpool career he won 5 league titles, 5 League Cups, 3 FA Cups and the European Cup. Later played for Leeds and Newcastle.

Robbie Fowler, (Striker, 1992-2001 & 2006-2007) Appearances: 369 Goals: 183

Fowler was known by the Kop simply as “God”. An instinctive striker, he made his senior debut in 1993, aged just 18, and finished the season as top goalscorer. He scored 30 in each of the following three seasons. In 2000, he was made Liverpool captain and in 2001 led the team to an unprecedented treble of League Cup, FA Cup and UEFA Cup. Sold to Leeds in November 2001, he later played for Manchester City, before returning to the Reds in 2006.

This Football Club has a history of more than 100 years: it was found on 1888. John Holding, the owner of “Anfield” stadium, has decided to create a new football team, after Everton F.C., the former team, has moved to another location. The name of the new football club was supposed to remain Everton, but the football association refused to accept it under the former name, therefore it was changed to Liverpool, after the name of the city. Liverpool won their first Football League championship in 1901, and won a second championship in 1906.

Liverpool’s longest standing rivalry is with Merseyside team Everton, after a dispute with Everton officials. Another well-known rivalry is with Manchester United, as a result of a success both clubs share. Liverpool football club has won five European Cups, and record eighteen English League titles. Liverpool also became the first English club to win three major trophies in a single season — the League title, the League Cup and the European Cup. Media also favors Liverpool – TV and newspapers regularly publish Liverpool news as the most famous football team in England. The city of Liverpool is associated with a variety of sport activities; however, football has proved to be the most successful.
