While many german fans and also many spectators around the world expected the geman national football team to reach and eventually win the finals of the FIFA World Cup 2010 after seeing their surprisingly fresh performance during the tournament, the team came finally in at thrid place after beating Uruguay. But how do the german public opinion now conceives this after the worldcup has ended? Will the players face a discussion of failure and the usual calls for sacking the trainer and the management?
Of course, not. Just shortly before the worldcup started only a few brave fans of the german national team expected the very young and unexperienced team to stand their ground on their first international tournament. But then the whole world saw to their surprise not the typical german team, that was always said to play effectively but mechanically and boring. They seemed a completely different team now: fast paced combinations in the midfield, always pushing forward to the opponents goal with speed and energy and fair behaviour of the whole team without any megastar attitude after their impressive victories.
This created among many fans the hope, that the german team could go for the title in 2010. Many forgot that the team had only 8 weeks before the tournament to train together. They are almost all very young player around the age of 20. And most of them had never played at this level of worldclass competition before. Yes, they also sacked England 4:1 and Argentina 4:0 – and after that internationally much praised victory in the quarterfinals they became for many international spectators the favourite team of the tournament. Everything seemed to be clear on the road to the title. But then the journey was suddenly over in the semifinals…
The german team found their master in the „Furia Rioja“, the spanish national footballteam which is ranked #1 in worldclass football. And the match between Germany and Spain really showed why – the young germans where outplayed by the experienced and technically overwhelmingly strong spanish players, who mostly know them since their youth where they play together in Madrid and Barcelona. Although the german team hold everything they could against the „Red Beast“ (like the spanish fans call their team) they got finally beaten by the smallest of eventual results, a single goal after a mistake of the german defence.
But this is now history, and most experts believe the german team will get stronger out of this tournament then ever thought. The next challenges will be the European Championship 2012 and then the next FIFA WorlCup 2014. There the team will need the qualities it showed so well this year and much more. Again, there can be much learned from such a tournament and such a bitter loss in the semifinals – but whith their young age and a management that is celebrated by the german public even after their third place the german national football team really has an avid open future with more and greater victories to come.

The FIFA Congress is comprised of member associations, and its functions include passing relevant changes to the FIFA statutes (according to the trends and developments at any given time), the election of the FIFA president, the members convene annually.

However, teams from Oceania Football Confederation are not offered automatic qualification to the World Cup, except to the FIFA Confederations Cup, the winner of their qualifiers faces a play-off against a South American or Asian opponent – Australia despite being part of the Oceania bloc switched its membership to the Asian Federation to expose its team to better competition.
