Oklahoma Sooners football tickets are always in demand in and around Norman, but the 2006 season carried expectations as low as any season in recent history. The Sooners suffered one crushing loss before the season began, and suffered two more once the season started. However, the Sooners are once again in a BCS bowl game, and almost no one expected this. It’s a credit to the coaching ability of Bob Stoops, and other factors are also responsible for this surprisingly successful season. We’ll examine the reasons for this great season below, and Sooner nation will once again be out in full force in January.
Obstacles Presented
The Sooners seemed to be destined for a disappointing season even before fall practice got into full swing. QB Rhett Bomar, a returning starter and a player many expected to be among the nation’s elite, was kicked off the team after it was discovered that he accepted money for what amounted to a “no-show” job, as it was alleged. Not only did the Sooners apparently lack depth at the position, but given the timing of this potential disaster, the team was basically put in a very difficult position on offense.
Two other serious problems arose during the season. The first was a highly-controversial loss to Oregon, which occurred when officials basically botched a late-game call that all-but handed the Ducks a victory. The Sooners play a challenging non-conference schedule with regularity, and this loss angered everyone from the coach to the president of the university, and it was quietly acknowledged by many that the Sooners had been robbed in that game.
Finally, the Sooners’ superstar, RB Adrian Peterson, was lost to injury when he broke his collarbone diving into the end zone after another of his patented scintillating runs. Peterson was the most feared offensive player in the Big 12, and perhaps the country, and most teams simply don’t overcome a loss like that and continue to win. Although Oklahoma Sooners football tickets are always hard to find, Peterson by himself was the reason many fans came out to see Oklahoma play.
Perseverance
As a credit to the program, each of these obstacles was met and handled with aplomb. New QB Paul Thompson, who had been expected to play WR this season, grew into his new position with what appears to be excellent coaching. Thompson has thrown for almost 2,500 yards and 20 TD’s, and finished the regular season with a QB rating of 144.56. If that isn’t great coaching, then there’s no such thing.
The Sooners also refused to fold after the Oregon debacle, even though they did suffer a tough loss to Texas two weeks later, and were sitting with a mediocre 3-2 record as of October 8. Many teams would simply fold at that point, but all Oklahoma has done since is run the table, including wins over three ranked teams and a Big 12 title. Again, credit needs to go to the coaching staff for this continued focus.
Finally, the loss of Peterson did not ruin the season. New starter Allen Patrick has racked up 700 yards in only about half a season, and he has kept the running game at Oklahoma churning. Included in his body of work are games where he rushed for 173 yards at Texas A&M and 163 yards at Oklahoma State. The result is teams still have to fear Oklahoma’s running game.
Results
The results speak for themselves. Oklahoma finds itself once again in a BCS bowl game with an 11-2 record, and a date with undefeated Boise State in the Fiesta Bowl. This is perhaps Stoops’ best coaching job, and Oklahoma Sooners football tickets are going to be impossible to find for yet another big-time bowl game.
College football has been called a pure game. The players are out there on the field playing for glory and school pride. They don’t get paid and many of them are hoping to get a shot at the NFL. College football has no salary cap and there’s nothing stopping a school from signing many top recruits in the country. In fact, a recent report showing the top high school possible recruits revealed that a strong majority had USC and Texas on their list of college choices. Good players want to play at a good school. As a result good schools get better and poor schools get worse.
Year in and year out we hear the names of top programs like Ohio State over and over. College football is a freer game than the NFL. Coaches are not afraid to try trick plays and run the option. As a result, the points can really add up. One trap that many college football bettors that also bet the NFL fall into is handicapping the game as if it was the NFL. In the NFL, each and every player—no matter how bad they seem—is one of the top players in the entire football world. In college football, there are handfuls of NFL type players with scores of just average players.
In the NFL, you would never see a spread between two teams in the 40s. However, it’s a common occurrence each week in college football. Yes, those favorite teams cover too. One aspect of the game that must be on any bettors mind is motivation. If the game features two bitter rivals, the game could be a hot contest no matter what the talent level. If nothing else, the worse team could remain closer to the favorite. It’s important to analyze the coaches as well. What type of coach does each team have? Does the coach like to run often? Does the coach like to fire away even when the game is won?
Here’s an example. For years Air Force was a team that would run the ball 80% of the time—effectively too. If they were playing a team that’s soft on the run, look out. By knowing the team’s game plan, you can forecast the outcome better. If Air Force were playing a poorer team, record wise, that had a really solid run defense, what would you do? If you were simply a college football handicapper that looks at wins/loses, you would most likely fail.
In the pros, teams are more apt to adapt. If the run is not working, they go to the air. However, in college football, some programs are built a certain way and they stick to their game plan for the most part. If the team is built as a running powerhouse, they are going to keep at the run, because that’s all they can really do. The grand lesson here is to not look at college football like you would the NFL. While it’s football, it really is not the same game.
For fun, I bet college football parlay cards. Every week of the NCAA football season, I bet at least one football parlay card in Vegas.
Regardless of where you bet on football, most sportsbooks pay about the same. Of the three main types of college parlays (ties win, teasers and 1/2 point cards), I bet the ties win parlay almost always.
Below, you’ll find the typical pay for winning a NCAA football parlay at any sportsbook.
NCAA College Football Parlay Wagering Payouts (Common – Ties Win):
2 Team College Parlay – 13/5
3 Team College Parlay – 6/1
4 Team College Parlay – 10/1
5 Team College Parlay – 20/1
6 Team College Parlay – 40/1
7 Team College Parlay – 75/1
8 Team College Parlay – 100/1
9 Team College Parlay – 150/1
10 Team College Parlay – 300/1
11 Team College Parlay – 450/1
12 Team College Parlay – 600/1
13 Team College Parlay – 750/1
14 Team College Parlay – 900/1
15 Team College Parlay – 1500/1
The more college football bets added to the card, the bigger the payout. It’s extremely hard to hit a 10-team parlay card. Still, I have scored on some large football parlay bets.
Normally, I don’t bet anything over a 5-team parlay. But there are exceptions. I don’t ever bet 2-team parlay bets though.
There is an art to winning college football parlay bets consistently. It’s not magic really. There’s a video you should watch. I linked to it below. Most sports bettors who bet on parlay cards lose, because they make 1-2 key mistakes.
This college football season, I’ll be winning lots of football bets. What about you?
Here’s to a ton of winning football bets this season.

Association football is widely considered to be the most popular sport in the world
Over the US states, the Association high school football season will have ended by late December, but the recruiting process by which college soccer offer scholarships to high school seniors often starts in the summer, before the school year and football season begin. Physical assessment is primary the most important key part of the recruiting process. High School football camps are usually held at college campuses where a large number of potential recruits can be evaluated simultaneously in various speed and skills drills. Aspiring high school football players are evaluated based on running dash, agility shuttle, vertical jump and the number of repetitions on the bench press that they can perform at a given weight. Based on performance over the course of their careers and at camps, colleges will typically take potential recruits on tours of the campus and athletic facilities, or the college may have its team’s coach visit the recruit at home or at school.
While all colleges do much of their recruiting from local and in-state high school football camps, where they can network with HS coaches and booster clubs, the nation’s top college programs can easily recruit athletes from around the country. Some colleges have historically been aided in this regard through their prominence within their religious affiliation, such as Notre Dame or BYU.
Students who played for larger high school football camps, or who competed in nationally-televised matches, have a natural advantage towards recruitment, while players who competed at smaller schools – such as most states’ 1A and 2A categories – will have their skills and achievements judged versus the lower-caliber opposition they faced and, as such, are rarely considered as top prospects. Occasionally, though, a student at a smaller school will receive a full scholarship by their visibility by sending out sports video highlights of their playing skills to some online sports recruiting websites.
